What is a Loose Ring Snaffle Bit?
Category of Bit: Snaffle
Action: The snaffle family of bits uses a bit ring at the mouthpiece to apply direct pressure on the bars, tongue and corner of the mouth. As a jointed snaffle this bit employs a nutcracker action, acting on the bars of the mouth. This makes it more severe than a straight bar bit but useful for horses with larger tongues. The loose rings help to ensure little or no action on the poll. The thickness of the mouthpiece is directly related to its severity and thinner mouthpieces are more severe.
Advantages: This bit contains sweet metals encourages salavation and bit accetpance. This is very useful for young horses to become accustomed to a bit. The slim mouthpiece of this loose ring snaffle makes it useful for strong or hard mouthed horses whilst the sweet metals will encourage a moister mouth.
